KDP royalty calculator
What Amazon actually pays you per sale on a Kindle ebook, on both royalty options, with the delivery cost taken off where it applies — across all nine marketplaces, each with its own band, delivery rate and rounding.
Since 7 July 2026 the 70% band on Amazon.com runs to $12.99, not $9.99. Checked on 2026-08-30, several of the calculators ranking for this search were still using the old ceiling, which understates a book priced above $10.
$1.75
per sale
$3.19
per sale · after $0.30 delivery
The 70% option pays $1.44 more per sale at this price.
With a 2 MB file, 70% starts paying more than 35% from $2.99 up.
At this file size Amazon will not accept a 35% price below $0.99.
Every marketplace, side by side
The 70% option always pays 70% of the list price minus a delivery cost; the 35% option pays 35% with no delivery charge and a much higher ceiling. What changes from store to store is every number in between.

The 35% ceiling is far higher everywhere — $200 on Amazon.com, ₹10,999 in India, ¥20,000 in Japan — so a price above the 70% band is not rejected, it simply drops to 35%. Questions
- Does the KDP royalty calculator work outside the US?
- Yes — this one covers all nine marketplaces Amazon publishes a band for, and they genuinely differ. India runs ₹99 to ₹599 with delivery at ₹7 per megabyte; Australia starts at $3.99 and runs to $15.99; Mexico goes to $199.99; Japan is ¥250 to ¥1650, rounds royalties to whole yen, and has two file-size tiers where every other store has three. A calculator that only knows US dollars will quote you a number Amazon does not use.
- What are the KDP royalty rates?
- Two options. The 35% option pays 35% of the list price with no delivery cost, and accepts prices up to $200. The 70% option pays 70% of the list price minus a delivery cost of $0.15 per megabyte, and only accepts prices from $2.99 to $12.99 on Amazon.com.
- Did the 70% price band change?
- Yes. Effective 7 July 2026 the 70% band on Amazon.com is $2.99 to $12.99, up from $2.99 to $9.99. Several calculators still in the search results compute against the old ceiling and will understate what a book priced between $10 and $12.99 earns.
- Is the 70% option always better?
- No. Delivery is charged per megabyte and only on the 70% option, so a large illustrated file can hand the whole advantage back. 70% is ahead only above a price of roughly the delivery cost divided by 0.35 — for a 20 MB file that is about $8.58, and above about 30 MB the 70% option never catches up anywhere in its band.
- What is the minimum price for the 35% option?
- It depends on the file size: $0.99 under 3 MB, $1.99 from 3 MB to under 10 MB, and $2.99 at 10 MB or more. A large book priced at $0.99 is rejected rather than accepted at a lower royalty.
- How is delivery cost calculated?
- File size in megabytes times $0.15 on Amazon.com, rounded to cents, with a minimum of $0.01. It is subtracted after the 70% rate is applied, not before.
